Understanding the Facts

At the national level, there are 3 major boards, which are CBSE, CISCE, and NIOS. Every board has its own set of advantages. It is up to the decision of the students and the parents to choose which board to prefer for their children. Let us know each of these boards in detail so that you make the right choice.

CBSE Board

CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) was founded in 1952. This is a regular board, and students can enrol to attend the classes at the school. The reason for bringing the CBSE board into existence was to bring every school and college throughout India under one board. This will make sure that each student is equipped with similar knowledge at all India level. The syllabus in the CBSE board is designed very well, and it keeps the students up to date because the syllabus is revised frequently.

The syllabus is designed by the National Council for Education Research in Training (NCERT). The main goal of NCERT is to frequently revise the syllabus to stay up to date with the most recent trends in education. Many changes have also been integrated in recent times.

CICSE Board

The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education is a private, non-governmental board of school education in India. This board organizes two exams in India, which are ICSE and ISC. The CISCE was launched in 1956. It is not a government-sponsored board, unlike the CBSE and NIOS. This board reviews the course once every three years. The CISCE board exam course is based on the curriculum of the Foreign Cambridge School Certificate Examination.

 NIOS Board

NIOS is a national board that takes care of the 10th and 12th exams of open schools. It is the same as CBSE and CISCE/ ICSE. But NIOS board is trying to modify this in the interest of the students. As NIOS is a central board, all the policies and procedures that are created by it must be executed by every other board at the state level too. The new education system created by the NIOS board must be applied by other boards too.

Under NIOS, the students will have to appear for 6 mandatory subjects in senior secondary, while under CISCE they must take only 4 subjects. Special significance is given to creative subjects such as painting, home science or sociology, while boards like CBSE or ICSE have not given any such importance.

Reasons for NIOS Growing Prominence

NIOS board is slowly becoming the most promising board. This board is approved and founded by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, the government of India. NIOS board will give utmost freedom to the students in such a way that they can even study from home. With a syllabus that is very advanced and is designed by NCERT. So, the syllabus is competent and equal to CISCE and CBSE boards.

Students who are preparing for entrance exams have begun preferring NIOS board as the mode of study to finish their Secondary and Senior secondary courses. Because many students have started preparing for competitive exams right from the Xth Standard or secondary level, so this gives them ample time to study and focus on the competitive exam that they have decided to qualify for. This is one of the major reasons why the NIOS board has been the preferred board in the current times compared to other boards.
